Why do I do what I do

Yesterday was not a great day school wise. The full moon, combined with a sudden change in weather, brought out the worst in the students. Days like that happen, but are never fun. A student in one of my reading groups got somewhat upset when I told him that read WELL isn't the same thing as reading FAST (he disagrees). In the end, I excused him from my reading group and sent him back to his desk. In his haste to leave, he forgot to leave his pencil so decided to throw the pencil at me from about 4 feet away. It wasn't a great day!
By the afternoon I was pretty grumpy and just trying to make it though the day. I had my 4th grade math students in my room with me and was trying very hard to get them to care (even a little) about double digit multiplication. Out of the blue, one of my studnets asked it I liked teaching. I replied that I LOVE teaching. She looked at me for a moment and then said "I can tell."
I find it pretty great that the children I am lucky enough to teach are able to add joy and admiration to even my worst days.
